Celebrating 75 Years of School Psychology in Ohio: Past, Present, and Future

Please join us in celebrating OSPA’s 75th anniversary at the 2018 Spring Conference. The conference committee is planning a unique, interesting, and fun program. The celebration program will kick-off Thursday morning with Dr. John Kelly, the current President of NASP. John will present his acclaimed keynote address The Power of One. He has delivered this address across the country in his capacity as NASP President and has received rave reviews. John is an excellent speaker, delivering a very powerful, thought provoking, and inspiring message about the impact we can have every day in our capacity as school psychologists. Many people have called it affirming and rejuvenating. Following his address, John will present Delivering Effective Mental Health Services in Schools with a focus on student anxiety and depression.

Children in Crisis: Perspectives on Meeting the Needs of America’s New Refugees. Friday's program will examine the topic of refugee children and families who have experienced trauma. The morning session will begin with student refugees sharing their personal experiences in their transition to the United States. Then we will have a panel of experts from Columbus, Akron, Cleveland, and Cincinnati who deliver services to support refugees in their integration into our schools and larger communities. We will explore best practices in supporting traumatized refugee students. Following the AM break and for the remainder of the day we will feature Dr. William Pfohl from Western Kentucky University. Dr. Pfohl is an international expert on PTSD, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution. Dr. Pfohl will present Helping Students Experiencing Crisis and Trauma. Bill will be in Germany for 2 weeks for training in January and will bring what he has learned back to share with us at OSPA. He is an experienced and accomplished speaker who has presented all over the world.
