Late in the 2015 school year it became apparent that a school psychologist shortage was happening in many areas of the state, particularly in rural areas. OSPA and the Interuniversity Council of School Psychology Training programs have worked collaboratively on this issue in the past, and in November 2015 they formed a joint task force to determine the current state of school psychologist staffing issues, to describe what has been done in the past to place school psychologists in underserved areas of the state, and to develop recommendations to address the issues that contribute to the shortage. The task force members included: OSPA and IUC officers, additional IUC members, OSPA members from areas of the state experiencing severe shortages and representatives from ODE, educational service centers and the Ohio Association of Pupil Services Administrators.
