Psychologists and educators have long recognized the effect of emotional maladjustment on the reading process. These effects have been studied empirically or theoretically (Abrams, 1971; Blanchard, 1946; Jarvis, 1958; Pearson, 1954; Sylvester & Kunst, 1943; Piccolo, Giacomoni, Julio-Costa, Oliveira, Zbornik, Haase, & Salles, 2017; Piccolo, Giacomoni, Lima, Basso, Haase, Zbornik, & Salles, 2020). Unfortunately, no paper has been published that provides an overview of the theory of Reading Anxiety.
