Danny Hurley is an Ohio lobbyist with nearly two decades of experience in federal, state and local government with an extensive focus on healthcare policy, finance and tax policy, and public spending and budgeting. In this webinar, Danny will build on his Advocacy 101 webinar (CLICK HERE to view) by providing guidance on how to write and delivery testimony and interact with policymakers. NASP Practice Domain 8 (Equitable Practices for Diverse Student Populations) indicates "School psychologists recognize...advocacy for social justice is foundational to effective service delivery." Practice Domain 10 (Legal, Ethical, and Professional Practice), meanwhile, states that school psychologists "apply professional work characteristics needed for effective practice as school psychologists, including...advocacy skills."
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will learn the proper way to draft testimony to deliver in an Ohio House or Senate committee hearing.
- Learners will know the proper way to present themselves when testifying.
- Participants will be empowered to advocate for students and the profession of school psychology in scheduled meetings with lawmakers or their staff.
Presenter: Danny Hurley, Vice President, Capitol Consulting Group
Danny is the Vice President of Capitol Consulting Group, a lobbying firm based in Columbus, Ohio, and specializing in state government affairs. He also serves as an elected official on City Council in Bexley. Danny is a graduate of The Ohio State University and has worked in the United States Senate and Ohio Senate prior to beginning his lobbying career. A native of the Dayton area, Danny is the father of two boys and resides in Bexley. In his free time, Danny enjoys reading, golfing and playing soccer.
